Jim is chief executive of Parkhead Housing Association in Glasgow, a role he has held for more than ten years. He started his career in housing as a housing benefit officer with Glasgow City Council in 1978 and worked his way up through the ranks to his current position.
Jim said: "We have a housing crisis in every jurisdiction of the UK. Our younger people in particular face an immensely difficult housing situation and we have to act on that. It is very clear that we need more affordable housing and we need it quickly.
"Housing organisations also face a challenge to continue to meet the needs of vulnerable people in an increasingly difficult climate. And then of course there is our increasingly unpredictable macro-economic and political landscape.
"I'm also determined to give housing professionals a voice. We have so many talented people working in our sector and I want to talk to as many of them as possible. CIH needs to be the clear, undisputed voice for the housing profession and I want to be part of helping it lead the charge."
Jim will be fund-raising for Women's Aid during his year as president. Find out more and get involved
