CIH published its first equality and diversity strategy in 2004, called 'Open to all, closed to prejudice'. The strategy has proved very successful and has enabled CIH to become more representative of the sector, especially in the area of race - 14 per cent of our UK members have Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) backgrounds. Our latest strategy is broader and equally as challenging. We have set ourselves some new targets in relation to race and gender. In addition, more priority will be given to the development of our activities in the areas of disability, age, sexual orientation and religion or belief.
