ABOUT THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF HOUSING (CIH)

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body for people who work in housing. The CIH is a registered charity and a non-profit making organisation. We have over 20,000 members who work predominantly in local authorities, housing associations, arms length management organisations (ALMOs) and the private sector in the UK and Overseas.

CIH Business Plan 2008-2010

For the first time CIH has published its Business Plan for 2008-2010. The document sets out our values and corporate objectives for the next three years:
  • shaping housing and community agendas;
  • equipping the profession for today and tomorrow;
  • delivering excellence for all our customers;
  • striving to be world class; and
  • uniting a global housing community.

PRESIDENTIAL APPEAL

The CIH aims to be an inclusive professional body which is 'Open to all and closed to prejudice'. In 2006 we continued our success in becoming a more diverse organisation. Our achievements include:

  • Nearly 20% of CIH's governing Council came from minority groups
  • Minority groups make up 14% of our Members
  • 27% of CIH students have BME backgrounds
  • 56% of CIH members are women
