ABOUT THE CHARTERED INSTITUTE OF HOUSING (CIH)

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body for people involved in housing and communities. We are a registered charity and not-for-profit organisation. We have a diverse and growing membership of over 22,000 people - both in the public and private sectors - living and working in over 20 countries on five continents across the world. We exist to maximise the contribution that housing professionals make to the wellbeing of communities.

HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF CIH

Last year, the Chartered Institute of Housing embarked on a major review of governance - how we run our organisation. We set up an Advisory Group under the Chair of Vice President Professor Paddy Gray. Following significant research, forming views on a way forward, CIH would like to consult with members and non-members on the proposals. The consultation runs until 8 April 2010 and you can share your views in a variety of ways.

Over many years the CIH Presidential Appeal has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for charities and good causes across the world. This year's President, Howard Farrand, is supporting the work of Homeless International.

EQUALITY & DIVERSITY | Download Strategy

The CIH aims to be an inclusive professional body which is 'Open to all and closed to prejudice'. In 2008 we introduced our new equality and diversity strategy. Facts highlighting our progress in this area include:

  • Minority groups make up 14% of our Members
  • 27% of CIH students have BME backgrounds
  • 58% of CIH members are women

In 2008, CIH became a member of lesbian, gay men and bisexual charity, Stonewall.
