What our learners and partners say

Active Learning for Residents supports the personal and professional development of both tenants and employees within your organisation. The programme is delivered by your housing practitioners, trained by CIH to guide residents through our nationally recognised qualifications.

What are the learners saying about the programme?

"...as a tenant board member, I decided to study for the Level 4 Award in Governance. My motivation was to broaden and deepen my knowledge whilst strengthening my strategic governance role. CIH is to be applauded for its development of ALfR to validate residents' participation in their communities and I would encourage many more to take part. Who knows where it might lead you?"

"In some ways I shall be sorry when the course is completed. Without taking part in the ALfR scheme I very much doubt whether I would have had the confidence to accept the nominations of my colleague board members to become the new Chair at our recent AGM. This is a new era for me and one that I am very much looking forward to. I have found that by challenging my passion and enthusiasm for social housing into gaining new skills, learning is not the chore it was at school and college."

"I would recommend this form of learning to any board member wishing to increase their knowledge and expertise."

" ...[ALfR] has allowed me to see just how much we are doing for our local community."

"I didn't realise what I've actually done... I was shocked when I realised... I can do things."

"I would encourage anyone who wants to work within their community to do it. It's a worthwhile sense of achievement."

What are housing organisations saying about the programme?

"In particular it has been a real pleasure to watch my learner grow in confidence and develop and use her new skills in her role as a board member. It has also helped us to develop a closer working relationship and understanding of each others roles. The time commitment has been more manageable than I initially envisaged and I have looked forward to receiving work from my learner as well as preparing for our sessions together. I would recommend the role of a recogniser to anyone - particularly those who have an interest in developing others as well as learning new skills of their own."

"One of our board members has completed the Level 4 programme and the hard work has certainly paid off. As a business we have seen benefits, with more informed and regular contributions to board meetings and a willingness and ability to take on other tasks such as board and staff recruitment. On a personal level, the programme of study has not only created a more rounded knowledge of the work of the organisation and the context of which it operates, but has also led to increased confidence and the development of new skills."
