Housing: Fresh Thinking, New Ideas
CIH Scotland Free Members Event
2 September 2010, Inverness

Housing: Fresh Thinking, New Ideas - the Government's Housing Discussion Document was published in late May.

• What ideas does it float and how much radical change might come out of it, on issues such as how new housing is funded and whether changes are needed to rents and the tenancy regime?
• What has the reaction to it been and what is CIH's view on which ideas are worth running with?

Hear a lively presentation from the following speakers:

• David Bookbinder, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at CIH
• David Goldie, Head of Housing at the Highland Council
• Helen Barton, Housing & Communities Director at Albyn Housing Society

A buffet will be served at 5.30pm and the conference will commence at 6pm. The session will close at 7.30pm.

This free event is open to member and non-members of the CIH

This event is kindly supported by Highland Council.

FREE LUNCH & LEARN TRAINING STUDY TRIP taking in 3 separate but very different locations………………

We will first meet up for lunch before taking a tour of BOHOUSE – an innovative development of 20 live / work units within the Boho Zone, part of the town’s Digital City initiative.

Moving onto STAGES ACADEMY - offering temporary accommodation in 30 ensuite bedrooms with communal facilities and 18 self contained apartments in a safe, friendly and supportive environment to single people from 16 to 65 years. With supported housing staff available 24 hours a day 365 days a year, its aim is to help clients transition from supported to independent living.

Before finishing our tour at TRINITY DEVELOPMENT (UK Housing Awards 2009 Winner) – a mixed use regeneration scheme in an area of Middlesbrough where the housing stock was unfit and where regeneration was a key priority for Middlesbrough Council. In physical terms the project has delivered a new road infrastructure, a new medical village including doctor’s surgeries, dentists and clinical space for health workers. With a renewed market square, improved community centre, affordable family homes and an older persons extra care scheme, this forward looking development has delivered fantastic improvements to the fabric and cohesion of the neighbourhood.

CIH Eastern Annual Conference - 9, 10 & 11 November 2010
Radisson Blu Hotel, Stanstead Airport
Booking Code: 2511062

The theme this year is 'The sky's the limit' - striving for excellence. As we meet, the new coalition government will have been in for six months, many of us will have been grappling with tightened budgets, achieving value for money, meeting the national standards, developing local offers with our tenants all within an ever changing environment. At the conference during our debates we will ask the questions - are we in recovery; how well are we doing; are we meeting our customers' needs; how can we unlock our customers' and employees' potentials? Come along to find out answers to these questions and many more, share your thoughts with us and let us all strive for excellence together.
