CIH EDUCATION

CIH is the largest awarding body for housing qualifications. The education team develops, quality assures and accredits vocational and academic housing qualifications. Many of our qualifications lead to membership of the CIH. People studying CIH accredited courses receive free Student membership of CIH for the duration of their course. LATEST: GHA TO DELIVER CIH HOUSING QUALIFICATION

Glasgow Housing Association (GHA) is the first housing organisation in Scotland to become a recognised accreditation centre for professional housing qualifications.

The Association has just been given the go ahead to deliver the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) Level 2 Certificate in Housing qualification. This means that all GHA 'customer facing' staff will now be given the opportunity to study for and gain a professional housing qualification.

Martin Armstrong, GHA's Director of Housing and Customer Services said: "We are delighted that we have become the first housing organisation in Scotland to achieve such accreditation. This is clear evidence of GHA's commitment to excellent customer service which will now be enhanced by the professional, courteous workforce we are developing.

"Our staff demonstrate a wealth of experience, expertise and dedication and always aim to get it right first time or our customers. The CIH course we are now authorised to offer them will ensure that we have outstanding staff that our customers can be proud of."

NEW - JOINT CIOB/CIH AWARDING BODY

The CIH has joined forces with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to launch new qualifications for housing staff who work in Repairs, Maintenance and Development.

The qualifications are:

- Level 2 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
- Level 3 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
- Level 4 Certificate in Housing Maintenance Management
- Level 4 Diploma in Housing Maintenance and Asset Management
- Level 4 Diploma in Housing Development.




CIH AWARDING BODY

At CIH we regularly review our certificate qualifications to ensure that they deliver relevant and up to date knowledge and skills that can be easily transferred to the workplace.

The Level 3 Award and Certificate in Housing has been revised for September 2008. The qualification can be delivered through a number of different pathways which have been designed for specific areas or job roles in housing.Pathways available are:

- Managing Housing Services
- Supported Housing
- Housing Advice and Information
- Community and Neighbourhood Wardens
- Caretaking and Concierge Services
- Regeneration, Renewal and Sustainability
- Resident and Service User Involvement
- Call and Control Centre Operations
- Traveller Site Management


ROUTES TO MCIH

Achieving the CIH Professional Qualification is the usual route to becoming a full professional member of the Institute. The full Professional Qualification comprises an appropriate academic qualification and APEX Express. Holders of the Professional Qualification are entitled to use the desgnatory letters MCIH.

There are many routes through the Professional Qualification and many different modes of study, including full or part-time college attendance, or Distance Learning.

The academic part of the Professional Qualification can be studied at undergraduate or postgraduate level.

APEX EXPRESS

APEX EXPRESS is the final step to Corporate membership (MCIH). It provides a route to MCIH that requires candidates to attend a one day training course and complete a personal development plan.

The training day will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the housing profession and the role of CIH with a group of fellow housing professionals.

You must hold at least a Professional Diploma in Housing (at undergraduate or postgraduate level) to apply for the programme.

IRPM PART II EXAMINATION

The IRPM commissioned CIH to design and manage the Part II Examination to enable IRPM members to progress to Corporate Membership.

The 2008 Examination session took place on 23 April, when 45 candidates sat the exam. A successful session saw a pass rate of 86% - congratulations to all.

The date for the 2009 session has been set for Wednesday 22nd April 2009.
