CIH EDUCATION

CIH is the largest awarding body for housing qualifications. The education team develops, quality assures and accredits vocational and academic housing qualifications. Many of our qualifications lead to membership of the CIH. People studying CIH accredited courses receive free Student membership of CIH for the duration of their course. BLACKPOOL COASTAL HOUSING RESIDENTS AND STAFF CELEBRATE SUCCESS

Blackpool Coastal Housing is celebrating the success of its residents and staff in achieving CIH qualifications.

Blackpool Coastal Housing is an approved CIH assessment centre with staff at BCH working with Blackpool and Fylde College to tutor staff and residents through the courses.

This is a great example of an employer working with a local college to develop their staff and their residents and provide nationally recognised qualifications.

LATEST EDUCATION NEWS

The Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF) is the new framework for creating and accrediting qualifications in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

CIH has Awarding Organisation status and is working to revise all CIH certificate programmes for submission to the QCF. The first qualification has now been approved.

The CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing Practice (QCF) was accredited in July 2010 and from 1 September 2010 will replace the current Level 2 Certificate in Housing.

While the remainder of our programmes are under review, we have applied for extensions to our current NQF provision.

The following qualifications have been extended until 31 March 2011:

Level 2 Award in Community Action in Housing
Level 3 Award In Housing
Level 3 Certificate in Housing
Level 4 Award in Governance
Level 4 Certificate in Access to Housing
Level 4 Certificate/Diploma in Housing

NEW - CIH LEVEL 2 CERTIFICATE IN HOUSING PRACTICE (QCF) (500/0810/4)

This qualification is an introductory vocational qualification for the housing sector. It is broadly comparable to a GCSE (grades A-C) or an NVQ Level 2.

This qualification will provide learners with a basic understanding of housing and intoduce some of the skills and necesary to participate in housing related activities whether paid or voluntary. It also prepares learners for future study.

ROUTES TO MCIH

Achieving the CIH Qualification is the usual route to becoming a full professional member of the Institute. The Qualification comprises an appropriate academic qualification which includes the practical requirement for membership. Holders of the Professional Qualification are entitled to use the desgnatory letters MCIH.

There are several routes to full membership and many different modes of study, including full or part-time college attendance, or Distance Learning.

The Qualification can be studied at undergraduate or postgraduate level. For a list of courses and centres please follow the link below.



Those people who have completed recognised qualifications prior to 2008 may not have achieved the CIH practice requirements - APEX. This can still be achieved through CIH. Please see the box below for more details or follow this link:



CIOB-CIH JOINT AWARDING BODY

CIH works in partnership with the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) to provide qualifications for housing staff who work in Repairs, Maintenance and Development.

The qualifications are:

- Level 2 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
- Level 3 Certificate in Housing Maintenance
- Level 4 Certificate in Housing Maintenance Management
- Level 4 Diploma in Housing Maintenance and Asset Management
- Level 4 Diploma in Housing Development.

These qualifications are currently being reviewed for submission to the QCF but current NQF provision has been extended to 31 March 2011.









IRPM PART II EXAMINATION

The IRPM commissioned CIH to design and manage the Part II Examination to enable IRPM members to progress to Corporate Membership.

The dates for the 2011 examinations sessions have now been set:

Scotland - Wednesday 20th April 2011
England/Wales - Wednesday 20th April 2011.

Registration for the 2011 examination sessions will begin later in the year.

APEX EXPRESS

APEX EXPRESS is the final step to Corporate membership (MCIH). It provides a route to MCIH that requires candidates to attend a one day training course and complete a personal development plan.

The training day will provide you with an opportunity to discuss the housing profession and the role of CIH with a group of fellow housing professionals.

You must hold at least a Professional Diploma in Housing (at undergraduate or postgraduate level) to apply for the programme.
















HOUSING APPRENTICESHIPS

Apprenticeships are available for anyone over aged 16. An apprentice could be recruited from an external pool of candidates or existing staff could take the chance to develop and enhance their own skills and knowledge.

Housing Apprenticeships are available at Level 2 (Apprenticeship) and Level 3 (Advanced Apprenticeship). CIH housing certificates at levels 2 and 3 are part of the apprenticeship programmes.
