About the Event

The launch of the Taylor review in 2008, together with the current economic downturn, has presented a number of challenges for practitioners, individual families, the local economy and the wider sustainability of the economy and rural communities.

The 2009 Rural Housing Conference will allow delegates to develop their understanding of current issues facing rural housing providers and, through visiting a recently completed rural housing development themselves, delegates will gain an insight into how it is possible to overcome these challenges in practice.

This event will help delegates to understand the key actions in response to the Taylor review and will look at the impact of the weak housing market on rural areas in terms of affordability and discuss what action can be taken by housing organisations to address this.

Delegates will learn from the experts about funding options for rural housing developments in difficult times, and they will also be exposed to tips on developing rural housing schemes in a recession. Effective communication with rural communities to secure their support for more affordable housing is crucial, and speakers will provide delegates with advice on techniques that can be adopted to achieve this.

The aim of this event is to ensure that delegates are well-equipped to contribute to the improved delivery and maintenance of sustainable affordable housing and the economy in rural areas despite the credit crunch. It will provide an excellent opportunity to develop ideas, and discuss the latest initiatives in relation to housing and the rural economy with experts and senior housing professionals.
