Welfare Reform: from bedroom tax to universal credit
About the event
The Welfare Reform Act received Royal Assent on the 8th March. The Act brings about the greatest changes to our welfare system since the creation of the Welfare State over 60 years ago.
The coalition government has promised to make the benefits and tax credits systems fairer and simpler and to “make work pay”. At the same time, the government aims to tackle the deficit, reduce overall spending on welfare and “protect the most vulnerable in society”.
This must-attend event will tell you all you need to know about Welfare Reform and the impact that it will have upon your residents and your organisation. Key elements of the new act will be explored; the creation of universal credit and its impact on tenants and providers; reform of the Disability Living Allowance to meet modern needs of disabled people; reforms to the housing benefit system and implications of the proposed ‘bedroom tax’. The event will also discuss the stronger approach to fraud and error. A range of speakers including the UK’s leading housing benefit expert will be on hand to challenge and debate the new reforms and offer practical advice for you and your organisation moving forward.
