The long awaited social housing green paper hit our desks during the summer recess and is described as a “new deal for social housing” which sets out a “vision which values and respects the voices of residents, with landlords treating them with decency and respect, backed up with clear consequences when they do not”.  The Green Paper is underpinned by five principles:

• a safe and decent home which is fundamental to a sense of security and our ability to get on in life;
• improving and speeding up how complaints are resolved;
• empowering residents and ensuring their voices are heard so that landlords are held to account;
• tackling stigma and celebrating thriving communities, challenging the stereotypes that exist about residents and their communities; and
• building the social homes that we need and ensuring that those homes can act as a springboard to home ownership.

Hear from each of our panellists on their opinion of the Green Paper, what it means for the sector and any challenges it presents, in particularly to the NW Region. Delegates will then have the opportunity to participate in a Q&A session with the panellists.
Panellists include:
Anna Furlong, head of regulatory framework, Regulator of Social Housing
Melanie Rees, head of Policy, Chartered Institute of Housing
Katie Henderson, head of strategy and planning, Riverside
Stephanie Harrison, executive director operations customer services, Regenda
Claire Ryan, director of investment and assurance, South Liverpool Homes
Maggie Cornall, director of operations, Blackpool Costal Homes

Benefits of attending

Hear from Melanie Rees, CIH Head of Policy, as to what this means for the sector, whether it delivers against CIH’s Rethinking social housing research recommendations, and how we can work together to provide  more homes and recommit to our relationship with residents. We also have expert panellists who will offer their own opinion and insight into the Green Paper.

Whilst at the event take the opportunity to chat with your regional manager (Stephanie Kelley) and other CIH representatives about how membership can support you as a housing professional. Also find out how you can get the most from your professional membership and hear about the great things we have coming up in the region and nationally for members.

If you’re not a member already why not talk to us about the advantages of becoming a member and joining our professional housing community.
