Octavia Hill, The Legacy and the Future
An opportunity to meet and hear from high profile figures in the sector who will be reflecting on the roots of the CIH, the ambition of Octavia Hill and how much of this ambition is still shared today.

- Wayne Hemmingway MBE - Fashion Designer & Trustee of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE)
Come and hear an overview of Wayne’s career and life to date. Wayne will talk about his journey from running a market stall in Camden market to co-founding the fashion label Red or Dead and Hemingway Design which has created affordable new build housing schemes, turned around troubled estates and instigated a host of impactful seaside regeneration projects across the UK.
- Karin Taylor - National Trust Head of Land Use Planning
Karin is a Chartered Town Planner and Landscape Architect who joined the National Trust in 2008. Karin will talk about her role which involves developing the Trust’s strategic policies in relation to planning, influencing Government and promoting “the right development in the right place” in tandem with the Trust’s objective of “protecting special places for everyone”.
- Richard Hill - Deputy CEO Sovereign Housing Association
Richard became Deputy Chief Executive of Sovereign when they merged with Spectrum Housing Group in November 2016. Richard was previously Spectrum’s Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Programmes at the Homes and Communities Agency. Richard will talk about Octavia Hill and how her vision and influence paved the way for modern social housing.
