Right to buy

09 May 2017, Leyland

About the event

Venue: South Ribble council, Shield Room, Civic Centre, West  Paddock, Leyland, PR25 1DH

Time: 11.30 - 14.00

Since the last general election the government’s radical housing policy agenda has thrown up a wide range of issues for the sector that require careful legal and wider strategic consideration. In this time of flux and uncertainty, the series of five seminars will focus on key legal topics currently affecting housing providers, providing them with a range of insight and ‘real world’ legal, strategic and operational advice that will help RPs tackle the key challenges they face, and also take advantage of the many opportunities the changing face of the sector presents. The interactive lunchtime seminars will cover a broad range of areas including housing management, development, governance, regulation and commercial property.

With voluntary RTB now running in parallel with the existing statutory RTB, there are many potential ‘traps for the unwary’ as RPs look to manage a process that has increased in complexity since the introduction of the Housing and Planning Act 2016. This session will look at the many issues thrown up by the new RTB landscape, and best practice in the RTB/RTA process. Areas of focus for this session could include:

• Best practice in general process/management/administration of RTB/RTA
• Key comparisons between voluntary and statutory procedures, and how the two can work in parallel
• Legal issues around the voluntary RTB procedure
• Key issues in admitting/denying RTB applicants – eg who is entitled, eligibility, succession rights etc
• Dealing with increased legal challenge
• RTB and S106
• S125
