CIH Scotland is pleased to invite you to attend our annual lecture, taking place on Thursday the 29th of November 2018 at the Dovecot Studios in Edinburgh.
We are delighted to announce that this year’s guest speaker will be Professor Susan Deacon CBE, Chair of the Scottish Police Authority.
Susan Deacon graduated in Social Policy and Politics and later an MBA. She began her career in local government and, following a a spell in management consultancy and training in the private sector, became MBA Director of Programmes at Edinburgh Business School, Heriot Watt University. She was elected as a Member of the Scottish Parliament at its inception in 1999 and served as Scotland’s first Cabinet Minister for Health and Community Care. Since standing down from elected office in 2007, she has undertaken a portfolio of leadership roles across the private, public and third sectors and has worked widely at the interface between research and practice, including six years as Assistant Principal External Relations at the University of Edinburgh.
Susan has served on a range of Boards and is a former Chair of the Institute of Directors Scotland. She is currently Chair of the Edinburgh Festivals Forum and a Board member of Lothian Buses and in 2017 was awarded a CBE for services to business, education and public service. Susan was appointed as Chair of the Scottish Police Authority in December 2017.
Susan will reflect on her time in local government, Parliament and more recently across private, public and third sectors about the role of leadership and how civic society can adapt to the changing political and economic landscape, as well as how it can shape the future.
