Social housing - more than just a roof
About the event
In the current economic climate and with funding being cut housing providers are expanding outside their traditional role in order to survive. In line with the Big Society Agenda and the Localism Act decision making is being devolved from government level to local level, giving housing providers more freedom to invest in areas that best fit the local community.
At the heart of the community housing associations are ideally placed to support and grow their local communities. Author Michael Green wrote “Britain already has a social investment market that has leveraged £60 billion of private capital. It is just not called social investment or social enterprise. It is the social housing sector.”
This event will explore the key elements of the Localism Act and what opportunities it creates for the housing sector. Speakers will demonstrate how social enterprises are key to empowering communities and how they can help the business objectives of housing providers. Organisations will offer practical advice, demonstrating how they set up their social enterprises and now successfully run them. The event will explore the streamlining of services through the use of community hubs and practical advice will be offered on the planning and delivery of community hubs including the benefit they offer to tenants. Community investment funds are becoming increasingly popular with many housing providers. Learn how to set up and effectively manage your own community investment fund. Delegates will also learn how to effectively measure the social impact of their organisation and how they can use the results to improve their services.
John Morris, Chief Executive, Trident Investment Group is speaking at the event and answers some key questions on the topic. To read the interview click here
