Fixed term tenancies: How and why are they being used?
About the eventTime: 11.00am-12.00pm
Speaker: Yoric Irving-Clarke, Policy & Practice Research Officer, Chartered Institute of Housing
Chair: David Pipe, Policy & Practice Officer, Chartered Institute of Housing
What will you learn?
Since 2012 both councils and housing associations have had the option of issuing tenancies for a fixed term, usually of at least five years, instead of ‘for life’. Measures set out in the Housing and Planning Act 2016 will shortly make this mandatory for all local authority landlords.
In this webinar we will discuss the initial experiences of some of the organisations who have already adopted them, including:
• different approaches to using fixed terms – what are landlords trying to achieve and how?
• practical challenges and lessons learnt.
