What is the housing offer for young people?

06 September 2017, webinar

Benefits of attending

The current policy environment presents a challenging time for many young people in England.

Evidence shows that young people are already marginalised by our housing system and are vulnerable to the impact that insecure and/or inappropriate housing can have on their lives.

A combination of welfare reform, low wages, insecure employment and housing policy developments has led to limited availability of affordable and suitable housing for young people, especially those who are single or childless couples.

In the era of “generation rent” - with huge numbers of young people locked out of home ownership and facing limited access to declining numbers of social homes for rent, as well as the reform to supported housing funding on the horizon – this webinar reviews the current housing offer for young people and considers the range of products and services that might be available and makes reference to some areas of good practice.

We will also look at the positive pathway for supporting young people out of homelessness and preventing it in the first place.  And we will consider how supported lodgings, shared housing schemes and psychologically informed environments (PIEs) can all play a part in an effective housing offer for young people at a local level.

Delegates will have an opportunity to ask questions but they are encouraged to share their own experiences of some successes and/or challenges in meeting the housing needs of young people.
