The business case for social landlords tackling worklessness is well established. We know that for a community to be sustainable and investment protected, added value is needed from regeneration programmes and closer links established between housing and employment and training services. The recession has only made the task more immediate and challenging.
In 2010, major changes are planned to the skills landscape and to Welfare Reform. The Homes and Communities Agency announced in September 2009 that it will expect all recipients of capital funding to produce jobs as well as homes.
The aim of this event is to update social landlords on the latest policy and practice developments and examine leading edge approaches to linking the housing and worklessness agendas.
Offering practical advice to strategic staff and policy makers the sessions will examine Economic Development and local Worklessness Assessments, how the skills and employment agendas are being integrated at a local level and how social landlords can be involved.
The event will also consider the changing skills landscape and what this means for housing organisations.
This seminar is aimed at housing professionals from local authorities, housing associations and ALMOs interested in tackling worklessness. It is particularly relevant for those working in regeneration, employment and training teams and neighbourhood management. Especially relevant for managers, at any level, people who are able to influence and implement change in housing organisations, but also in voluntary organisations, partners to housing organisations (e.g. employment, education or skills sectors) and local businesses.
