CIH comment on Homelessness Reduction Bill
CIH head of policy Melanie Rees said: “We are very pleased to learn that Conservative MP and member of the Communities and Local Government Committee Bob Blackman will use his Private Members’ Bill to focus on preventing and tackling homelessness in England."This is a great opportunity to make a difference to people who are in danger of losing their homes – we’ve already seen similar legislation in Wales lead to a 70 per cent reduction in homelessness within the first three quarters of its introduction.
"However, for any new legalisation to be effective, it’s vital that it is backed by financial support so that local authorities can meet their new duties. If this doesn’t happen, it may be difficult to deliver in practice."
