The Chartered Institute of Housing is the independent voice for housing and the home of professional standards

CIH strengthens its offer to professionals in the Republic of Ireland

29/03/2012

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is strengthening its operations to offer new services to housing professionals in the Republic of Ireland.

Irish members will have access to a broader range of member benefits similar to those available to UK members. Access to a wider variety of learning opportunities, publications and good practice guidance will help housing professionals stay up-to-date with the latest developments in Ireland and abroad.

The work of CIH in Ireland will roll out gradually over the coming months, and new developments will be based on extensive consultation and engagement with the sector.

Jim Dennison, director of CIH Northern Ireland, said: “The housing sector in Ireland has gone through significant change in recent years. We need to support and invest in our members – all of whom are operating in this changing and challenging environment. By improving our membership offer, we’re giving Irish members the opportunity to access broader housing knowledge and comprehensive member benefits.”

John Hannigan, chair of the Housing Profession Working Group in Ireland, said: “I am delighted to be part of this new development from CIH in the Republic of Ireland. Membership of the professional body for housing, combined with real and practical support to those working in our sector will undoubtedly add value to our work.

Being a member of a professional body is more important than ever, given the current economic situation. The need to adapt quickly to the changing housing environment in Ireland is critical in order to deliver real housing solutions to people. CIH offers members access to support, knowledge and information that is both tested and practical as it is underpinned by policy and learning from the wider sector.”

Grainia Long, CIH chief executive, said: “This development really brings to life one of the core aims of our corporate strategy which is ‘putting the customer at the heart of the organisation’. We want to create customised products and services to support our membership base in Ireland.

“We have a small but growing membership in Ireland that is committed to learning and development. As an Irish housing professional working in the UK, I’m very excited at the prospect of a network of CIH members working across Ireland to continue to improve lives and communities across all housing tenures.”
