Challenges facing London explored at London Board event
The Drink Think Tank - DTT7 - was held on 30 November with guest speaker Tom Copley, Labour Housing Spokesperson for the London Assembly.
The timing and the topic was perfect for the DTT.
London is facing a housing crisis particular for affordable housing, temporary housing and rental market. The uncertainty over Brexit is also beginning to emerge in the industry and Tom outlined the challenges as well as opportunities for the London housing market.
In his concluding remarks Dean Wincott from Langley Waterproofing Systems, who sponsored the event, also reminded us that utilising existing asset to create new units such as roof top development and hidden homes cannot be forgotten based on the land values in London. After an excellent debate and very encouraging engagement during the session the attendees were able to meet Tom for an informal networking session.
The event was attended by well over 30 guests across all levels from the housing sectors, non members as well as members. The guests were from a diverse range of organisations, job titles and interests which contributed to an intriguing discussion.
The ‘Drink Think Tank’ was devised by the London Board in 2013 to meet CIH’s objective to give advice, support and knowledge to everyone involved in housing. The event is designed for housing professionals to share knowledge and good practice and to attract new members to CIH. It provides a great opportunity for housing professionals to see the benefits of CIH membership and allows current CIH members to network outside of the usual circles.
Drink Think Tanks are held at least twice a year with each event featuring a housing ‘hot topic’ and a different guest speaker, followed by a discussion and informal networking. The next event will be held in April/May 17. We hope to see many of our guests return and many new faces too.
Once again thanks to Langley Waterproofing Systems for sponsoring the latest event last month.
