East Midlands partnership wins housing heroes award
An East Midlands Partnership – led by Derbyshire Dales District Council – has won a prestigious prize at the UK Housing Heroes Awards in London today.
The awards were established in 2009 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the many unsung heroes working in the housing sector.
The Derbyshire Dales Development Team – comprising of nine local organisations - received the Development Team of the Year Award for their work to maintain house building in the area, despite the challenges of the recession. Since 2002, the partnership has delivered 578 new homes across the Dales and accounted for over a third of all new affordable homes built in the county in 2009.
The Team collected their award at the Hilton Hotel from BBC TV personality Ben Fogle. In total, awards were presented in 15 different categories in an event organised jointly by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing magazine.
The Chartered Institute of Housing’s Kathy Hanson said: "The recession has proved challenging for house building. Making land available for development has been crucial and the Derbyshire Dales Development Team has been exceptional in their ability to maintain a full programme of development – meeting all their targets. Tenants in places like Baslow, Taddington, Brassington and others are now benefitting from the hard work of this partnership."
