'Extremely worrying' drop in affordable housing supply highlights need for action

The government must act now to boost affordable house building, CIH chief executive Terrie Alafat has said, after new figures show supply has halved in the last year.

Terrie Alafat CBE, chief executive of CIH, said: “Though a drop in the delivery of affordable housing may have been expected following last year’s peak, the fact supply has more than halved in a year is extremely worrying.

“According to the government’s figures this is the lowest level of affordable housing delivery since at least 2001.

“It is now very clear that the government must introduce bold and targeted measures in the Autumn Statement and beyond to deliver its pledge to tackle our growing housing crisis and meet the ever increasing need for homes that people can afford.”
