Getting to know Angus Kennedy

17/08/2012

In celebration of team GB’s 29 gold medals CIH is offering a 29% discount on the exclusive masterclass programme. We caught up with programme leader, Angus Kennedy to find out about his achievements and the great line-up for this year’s masterclass.

“Believe that you can make a difference. At some point every person in an organisation is the most important person.

“Everyone should know and be made to feel that what they’re doing is important and worthwhile.”

Angus is passionate about regeneration and inspired by community activists. His career started in 1976 when he became a trainee assistant planning officer. Since then, Angus has received an OBE, become chief executive of his own company and leader of our prestigious masterclass programme.

Angus was awarded an OBE in 2004 for his services to social housing in Birmingham, and awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Birmingham University in 2005 for work in the regeneration of Castle Vale and his wider contribution to the city of Birmingham and the West Midlands.

He said: “I didn’t have any thoughts about going into housing until I met a planner at a careers convention when I was 14 or 15.”

What is the CIH masterclass?

This is our flagship training programme designed to meet the learning needs of chief executives, senior managers and other professionals. The 2012 Masterclass considers in depth many of the challenges facing the sector that were outlined at the CIH Housing 2012 annual conference and exhibition. Sir Bob Kerslake has participated as a keynote speaker for several years

We asked Angus why you should book your place:

“What other chance will you get to have an almost one to one with a permanent secretary?

“You can change things. No matter how bad the situation looks you can do different and more things to make change. It is even more crucial than ever to embrace change. Who is going to do these things if it isn’t the housing organisations? Come along and see what’s out there and what you can change, sometimes for free. Come and be inspired and then go back and inspire your organisation.”

CIH members can read the full interview with Angus in the July edition of Conversations Inspired by Housing magazine.
