Housing group completes 120 mile charity trek

Staff from Incommunities and six housing partners have helped raise £3,000 for the UK’s leading young people’s charity – The Prince’s Trust - after completing a gruelling challenge.

Image of Geraldine and friends finishing walkIn Friday (15 April), 50 housing employees swapping their workplace for the towpaths of the longest canal in northern England to complete the last leg of a five day trek which started in Liverpool.

Setting off from Skipton (9.15 am), the group faced mud and rain before reaching Incommunities’ canal-side base in Shipley later in the afternoon.

Among the finishing group were Incommunities colleagues Miles Boothby and Cathy Chattaway, who cycled and walked the canal route over five days.

Supporters from South Liverpool Housing, First Choice Homes Oldham, Leeds Federated Housing, Leeds and Yorkshire Housing, Unity Housing and the Chartered Institute of Housing made it a real team effort.

The Prince’s Trust is the nominated charity of Geraldine Howley, as President of the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH). This year, the charity is celebrating its 40th birthday working to help young people from 13 to 30 turn their lives around.

Geraldine Howley, Incommunities Group chief executive, who completed both the first and last legs of the canal challenge, said: "A big thank you to colleagues across the housing sector who have given their time and energy to walk and cycle the route this week as well as everyone who has given so generously to support them.

"The many sore feet and aching joints have been worth it to support the Prince’s Trust and its invaluable work in giving thousands of young people fresh start."
