Introducing the year of practice
Policy and Practice Officer David Pipe introduces our new year of practice campaign and explains how you can get involved during the next 12 months.Back in January I wrote a blog setting out how, for housing practitioners, 2012 would be a year dominated by the need to put new policy initiatives into practice. It suggested that CIH would need to focus on providing advice and guidance to help the sector to implement these changes effectively.
Four months on, we are now launching CIH’s ‘year of practice’. Between now and April 2013, CIH is committing to provide a comprehensive package of advice and support, focused on a number of key areas of work which we have identified as our priorities.
Many of these are areas of considerable change, but at the same time it is also vital that housing providers continue to deliver their core services to tenants to a high standard. So our year of practice will be focused on getting the basics right and implementing change.
As well as focusing our existing resources and services, like our training, events and good practice briefings, on these priority areas we will also be developing new tools to support the sector over the next year. For example, these will include a range of new charters, building on the success of Respect: ASB Charter for Housing. The charters will provide a framework to help organisations identify the outcomes that a good quality service can deliver and to help tenants assess the quality of the services they receive and hold their landlords to account.
We will also be developing a number of online networks for participants to share ideas, expertise and knowledge with each other and running a series of ‘year of practice live’ sessions at our annual conference in Manchester. We will publish more details about these initiatives soon.
In the meantime visit our new, dedicated section of this website setting out what our year of practice priorities are, the resources and services that are currently available and some of the things that we will be working on over the next 12 months.
