Launch of CIH Canada builds the Chartered Institute of Housing’s membership and education services
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is to build its network of housing professionals in Canada. The organisation is to work with Ontario-based Housing Services Corporation (HSC) to deliver membership and education services.It aims to establish consistent education and performance standards for housing professionals in Canada. The partnership will offer tailored support, qualifications and courses to help people achieve CIH certificates and chartered member status.
CIH chief executive Grainia Long said: “CIH is delighted to be signing this agreement with HSC and helping to build a network of housing professionals internationally. Through the partnership, we’ll be using our long-established expertise in housing education to promote and improve professional standards in Canada as well as supporting housing professionals there – all things to which HSC shares our commitment.”
She added: “We’re very lucky to be able to draw on the talent and experience of our 22,000-plus members worldwide, and CIH Canada will grow that membership base even further.”
HSC is a non-profit organisation that delivers programmes to support Ontario’s affordable housing sector. Joint research showed support in the affordable housing sector for a strategy to attract new talent to the sector. Working with their sector partners, HSC has been building support in Ontario and Canada for a consistent educational standard.
HSC Chief Executive Officer Howie Wong said: “We believe that professional accreditation and education is a key piece in the long-term sustainability and strength of the social housing sector in Canada. To be working with CIH, the world leaders in education and member services for housing, is fantastic for current and future Canadian housing professionals.”
“HSC is excited to bring CIH Canada’s first programmes to our sector later this year”, he added.
CIH will lead the development of education programmes while HSC will be responsible for developing the Canadian market and delivering local services. The partnership is expecting to bring its first products to market in the autumn.
