Learning pays off for housing hero
A Customer Services Manager from Wolverhampton Homes – Dawn Aston-Adams – has won a prestigious prize at the UK Housing Heroes Awards in London today.
The awards were established in 2009 to recognise and celebrate the achievements of the many unsung heroes working in the housing sector.
Dawn won the Career Development Star of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding professional development in recent years and how she has applied her new skills to help modernise Wolverhampton Homes approach to customer service. In recent years Dawn has become highly qualified in the housing profession, achieving a commendation at Foundation Degree level and a distinction for her BA Degree in professional Housing Studies.
In addition to being a busy mother and student, Dawn has helped to revolutionise Wolverhampton Homes’ service delivery. She was responsible for establishing a modern city centre one-stop-shop for Wolverhampton Homes, which gives customers speedy access to online and personal services.
Dawn collected her award at the Hilton Hotel from BBC TV personality Ben Fogle. In total, awards were presented in 15 different categories in an event organised jointly by the Chartered Institute of Housing and Inside Housing magazine.
The Chartered Institute of Housing’s Kathy Hanson said: "Dawn is considered a true asset at Wolverhampton Homes and they consider themselves extremely lucky to have her in their ranks. It is fantastic that her hard work and commitment is paying dividends – both personally and for local people in Wolverhampton who can now access this superb service."
