Update from the CIH London board on a forthcoming event with HACT focusing on innovative community engagement and investment.

The CIH London board is a group of individuals who probably bring hundreds of years’ experience to the board. No, they’re not that old but they do collectively have decades of learning from all of the roles they have occupied over the years.

However, that does not mean that they know it all themselves. This is a group of people who understand that learning new skills helps both their organisations and themselves grow. As housing professionals, we know that evolving and growing is key to survival and success. The board has discussed the topics that are most relevant to the housing professional of today and want to create a platform where we can share that learning with as many of you as possible.

This is why the CIH London board is hosting a series of events/seminars/discussion groups and round tables inviting practitioners from all levels to come and find out more about certain topics and return to their organisations with fresh perspectives and new ideas. If nothing else, these sessions will stimulate debate in the sector and start many conversations about how we adapt to a changing landscape.

In June we are planning to stage an event at which HACT will be sharing their innovative approach to community engagement and investment. HACT is a sector organisation set up initially to help housing associations become established and now to seek and share solutions across the housing sector. It is a think and do tank that pores over the issues that matter to us and offers modern thinking and tools.

After years of austerity, much reduced subsidies for new homes and the tragedy of Grenfell, the time has come to reset our focus on our tenants and their ambitions and aspirations. In this current housing environment, we know that as a sector we have work to do to regain the full trust of our tenants. The best housing providers will want to do this and will want to invest in homes, people and local communities. In this session HACT will share how they work with housing providers and their partners to support their work in neighbourhoods and with local communities.

As housing providers our social purpose matters and many of us want to maximise the impact we have in creating sustainable lives and places. By sourcing new tools or technology, sharing best practice and enabling cross-sector partnerships, HACT Local is working to redefine holistic and sustainable community investment as a priority that works across the whole housing business.

Come to this session and see how the sector’s forerunners are implementing new ways of thinking and working to support their tenants. If you work with tenants, are responsible for staff who do or want to strategically revisit the offer you are making to your tenants, this is a session that you won’t want to miss.

We are very grateful to HACT for giving us their time and information. We do plan on having an update webinar in October to capture any emerging issues and learning.
