Getting to know you: Stuart Rafferty
The Housing Festival 2018 is being organised by CIH Futures NI; a group of ambitious and talented young housing professionals who are eager to show the fun side of the housing sector! In this ‘get to know’ series of blogs we will introduce each member of CIH Futures NI individually – so that you can get to know them a little bit better! Next up, it’s Stuart Raffety...
First, tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Stuart Rafferty I am 27 years of age I am an outgoing sociable guy and outside of work my main hobbies are spent between football, rugby and the gym alongside spending time with family and friends.
Tell us about your job and organisation...
I work for Connswater Homes as a Housing Assistant and I have been here for just over a year and half, in my current role. I liaise with tenants to allocate properties and sustain tenancies within other areas of support if needed. I also help to resolve rental arrears and anti-social behaviour cases. I have also previously worked for Choice Housing where I started my journey in social housing which has given me a platform to help build my career in housing.
Tell us more about your housing journey so far...
I became a CIH member around 4 years ago when I started in social housing primarily to be part of a recognised professional body, however it didn’t take too long to realise the resources, support and training from CIH was worth much more to my career.
On the contrary housing was not my first career aspiration! I studied at QUB doing Mechanical and electrical engineering, and as it transpired through lack of job opportunities I “fell” into housing, I have never looked back since!
I love working in housing and it’s a career I aim to build my future professional years of working behind. I enjoy working in housing most as being “frontline staff” I get to see the real long term life effects for the better on people’s lives and knowing that I helped play a part is what is most pleasing.
I joined the CIH Futures group only a matter of months ago and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience so far, I look forward to our Housing Festival in June and all future events that will follow it.
