CIH Cymru supports Bron Afon 'Sleep Out'
14/08/2012
Forty people will sleep outside overnight at Bron Afon’s headquarters in Llantarnam this Friday and CIH Cymru will be amongst them.
The ‘Sleep Out’ has been organised by staff and members of Bron Afon Community Housing’s Afon Youth Forum. Young people, staff from two housing organisations and members of a local community youth club will sleep outdoors with nothing more than cardboard boxes and plastic sheeting from 7pm on Friday 17th August to 6am on Saturday 18th August to raise awareness of the issues facing young homeless people.
Tom Fullick, chair, Afon Youth, said: “The sleep out is something we have been planning for a while. We are hoping to raise money for Bron Afon’s, ‘Own Two Feet’ project, which aims to support homeless young people into independent living.”
The project offers support, training opportunities and life skills, such as ‘Eating on a Budget’ and ‘Money Management’, to homeless young people of Torfaen between the ages of 16-25 years.
CIH Cymru will be taking part and live-tweeting the event, look out for our coverage by following @CIHCymru. Director Keith Edwards said: “Every day housing professionals see more and more young people without a home or in fear of homelessness. Afon Youth Forum are doing great work to raise awareness of this issue with the public and CIH Cymru is proud to support them”
Funds raised via sponsorship will be used to purchase basic and vital household items which will be given to the young people when they secure their own tenancy. Anyone interested in making a donation should call Maria Jones on Freephone 0800 111 42 42.
