CIH Cymru welcomes safeguarding of Supporting People fund in budget deal

Labour and Plaid have arrived at a budget agreement for the next two years that ensures no cuts to the Supporting People grant. The agreement also provides an extra £10million to maintain spending at 2017/18 levels. CIH Cymru welcomed the announcement.

CIH Cymru director Matt Dicks said:

“It is fantastic to see that politicians have listened to housing professionals, and today hammered out a budget deal that protects levels of the Supporting People grant.

Cuts to this part of the budget would impact on the most vulnerable in our society, and it is vitally important to protect the grant at current levels to ensure services can continue offering the support and assistance that is helping so many people.

This is also great news for efforts in preventing homelessness; the activities of recipients of the Supporting People grant play a pivotal role in helping people to sustain tenancies, ensuring they do not face homelessness.”
