Equality and diversity – statement from CIH chief executive, Gavin Smart
Recent events, from the killing of George Floyd to the disproportionate impact of COVID-19 on black and minority ethnic communities, have yet again demonstrated the failure of our society, politics, and culture to value all individuals equally.
We know many people do not feel a true sense of inclusivity. We know many people still experience discrimination and fear. We know many people still do not receive the same opportunities as those around them.
At CIH, we know we need be honest with ourselves about our role and responsibility to support and deliver greater equality. We know we need to do more to stand up to racism and support inclusion and diversity across the housing sector and beyond. Our code of conduct highlights a requirement to promote and support equality, diversity, and inclusion, and this applies as much to us as an organisation as it does to our members and the wider housing sector.
We want to ensure everyone we work with – from our members and colleagues, to our trainers and students, to our stakeholders and partners – to feel supported and valued by CIH and the housing profession.
CIH will do more to eradicate racism and other discrimination. If you would like to get in touch with us to discuss, please email: email@example.com
