CIH Responds to the 2007 Budget
21 March 2007

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) welcomes the Chancellor’s plans to make homes more energy efficient, but calls on the government to put more research and development funding into housing-related technology.

Sarah Webb, CIH Deputy Chief Executive said: "The housing profession is leading the way in green thinking with innovations such as Black Country Housing’s fuel cell projects and the Sandwell Solar City initiative. We need to co-ordinate our response to tackling the environmental impact of housing and CIH with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation will invite key housing and environmental stakeholders to develop ideas on the subject at a meeting in the next few months."

CIH also welcomed the government’s continued support for the poorest people in society to have access to money advice and good value financial services and welcomed its new financial inclusion strategy and action plan.

Sarah Webb continued: "The role of housing providers and other trusted intermediaries is important as they are often the most accessible route to money advice and affordable credit in many disadvantaged neighbourhoods."
