Five projects that have successfully brought together regeneration professionals from a variety of sectors have been shortlisted for a prominent Government award.
The Creating the Future Awards 2008 recognise outstanding achievement in the delivery of sustainable communities.
The organisations shortlisted in the Bringing People Together category, sponsored by the Chartered Institute of Housing, have worked hard to encourage collaborative, cross-sector learning and skills development. They are:
Developing Leaders for Building Sustainable Communities (RENEW Northwest Common Purpose Programme) – a five-day leadership development programme to help regeneration professionals understand the wider issues of building sustainable communities and the role of other professions.
Flight of the Flamingos Programme (Wolverhampton Learning Partnership) - a six-week learning programme for middle managers, promoting partnership working in the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors in Wolverhampton.
PlanIT Merseyside (Sefton Borough Council) - 18 interactive workshops designed to improve the partnership, sustainability and collaborative working skills of council members, local government officers and Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) organisations.
Integrating Development Planning and Transport Planning (Royal Town Planning Institute) – a Transport Planning Network, which brings together 400 professionals from the worlds of development planning and transport planning to develop and promote best practice.
This is Not a Gateway – an organisation that encourages collaboration across disciplines and cultures to share ideas about cities, focusing on a festival, workshops and online library.
More than 150 public, private and third sector organisations submitted entries to the awards, which highlight contributions from projects and individuals that help create and maintain great places.
Thirty-one projects across England have been shortlisted in seven award categories, including: bringing people together; innovative engagement; inspiring young people; low-carbon development; mixed communities; schools and the community; and vision for place.
The winners will be announced on 5th June 2008 at an awards dinner at the Roundhouse, London.
