Promoting homeownership
Promoting homeownership has been a priority for successive governments and is already a priority for the coalition government. Shortly after the election the new
government said that it would ' promote shared ownership schemes and help social tenants and others to own or part-own their home’. This is likely to mean increasing
importance for the work that social housing providers carry out to promote homeownership such as right to purchase schemes, cash incentive schemes and low cost
homeownership schemes. CIH have produced new guidance to help landlords in England and Wales in these areas.

Anti-social behaviour survey results
We published the findings from a national survey of landlords on Anti-Social Behaviour (ASB) at our annual CIH conference at Harrogate. Over 300 landlords took
part in the survey. It identifies which ASB activities are priorities for housing, what work is currently being undertaken, the extent of existing partnership
arrangements, and what the main barriers are to developing effective long term solutions to ASB within the housing sector.

Equality Act 2010
This April the Equality Act 2010 completed the final stage of its passage through Parliament and its provisions will begin coming into effect from October 2010.
It brings together existing discrimination legislation into one Act and introduces a range of new provisions. With advice from Anthony Collins Solicitors, this
alert sets out which parts of the act are likely to apply to which types of providers.

Anti-social behaviour action team launched
From 6 April a new anti-social behaviour (ASB) action team will be working with housing providers to help reduce instances of ASB and improve services to tenants. Funding from Communities and Local Government has enabled this team to deliver their services to landlords without charge. They are part of a £10m initiative which also includes new guidance published on Tackling anti-social behaviour: Tools and powers.
