Rethinking social housing: final report

Rethinking social housing: final report

What is the purpose of social housing? After decades of change and challenge, which have transformed society and our sector in ways we could not have imagined, the time has come for us to ask if we see the provision of a safe and secure home for everyone as an essential part of a modern, civilised society. And, if we do, what should that look like today?

We wanted the people who live and work in social housing to lead the debate. More than 3000 people took part in specially-designed workshops, over a third of whom were tenants. Additional public polling surveyed 1700 adults. This report takes the results of this consultation and a widespread review of evidence and combines them into a strong series of recommendations to the government and the sector about the future of social housing.
