CIH Scotland submission on loneliness and social isolation

27/04/2018

Description

CIH Scotland has published its submission to the Scottish Government consultation on A Connected Scotland: Tackling social isolation and loneliness and building stronger social connections.

In our response, we are calling for:
  • Recognition of the valuable work that the housing sector does in reducing loneliness and social isolation;
  • Continued Scottish Government investment in social housing at a level that will enable rents to remain affordable and allow landlords to invest in additional services for their tenants and communities;
  • Exploration of how best to support alternative housing models, such as cohousing, that can encourage social interaction, building on success from Europe and the rest of the world; and
  • Continued commitment from the Scottish Government to mitigate the worst aspects of welfare reform and create a social security system that supports people to have a good standard of living and participate in society.
