This qualification will provide you with a structured introduction to all essential aspects of housing strategy, policy and theory. Successful completion of this course will enable students to progress to the CIH Professional Qualification, leading to chartered membership.

Aims and outcomes

On completion of this course you will:

  • Understand the key functions involved in housing management as well as a range of housing-related advice services
  • Develop your knowledge of the legal system in relation to housing and the application of the law in housing practice and homelessness
  • Understand the impact that socio-economic factors have on housing need, demand and supply
  • Broaden your knowledge of housing policy in the UK, and develop analytical skills, enabling you to evaluate policies, their intended outcomes and impacts
  • Develop an understanding of the wider financial environment of housing organisations
  • Develop skills in managing people, through an understanding of human resource policy and practice, managing change and managing risk


You can apply to study this qualification if you are:

  • Aspiring to or working at management level in the housing industry
  • Experienced or have previous learning in housing
  • Aged 19+

  • Housing need, demand and supply
  • Housing policy
  • Housing economics and housing finance
  • Managing people

The qualification has a credit value of 36 under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).
