CIH Level 3 Diploma in Housing Practice (QCF)

Qualification number


This qualification will provide learners with a broader knowledge and understanding of key areas in delivering housing services, focused on the practice issues directly affecting frontline housing roles. It is comparable in level to an A-level or an NVQ level 3.

Aims & outcomes

On completion of this qualification learners will:
  • have an understanding of delivering affordable housing services, including key themes of partnership working, resident participation and regulation
  • have increased knowledge of equality and diversity legislation in a housing context
  • have developed their personal, professional and organisational skills, such as communication, team working and customer service skills
  • have a detailed understanding of their selected specialist area of housing practice


This course is suitable for learners who are:
  • working in housing and want to further develop their skills and knowledge
  • looking to specialise in an area of housing
  • aged 16+

Qualification outline

All students complete the following three units, achieving 12 credits under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF):

  • Delivery of affordable housing services
  • Equality and diversity for housing
  • Professional practice skills for housing

In addition, students complete a further 27 credits from the following optional units. Units offered may vary depending on the delivery centre.

  • Managing housing services
  • Resident and service user involvement
  • Managing neighbourhoods
  • Caretaking and concierge services
  • Regeneration, renewal and sustainability
  • Support for independent living
  • Telecare services
  • Housing advice and information
  • Traveller site management
  • The housing context
  • Supporting homeless people
