The CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing

The CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing is an introductory vocational qualification for the housing sector, which is broadly equivalent/comparable to a GCSE (grades A-C) or an NVQ Level 2.

Aims of the course:

• To provide learners with a basic understanding of housing.
• To introduce some of the skills and knowledge necessary to participate in housing related activities whether paid or voluntary.
• To prepare learners for future study. Learners may progress to the CIH Level 3 Award in Housing or the CIH Level 3 National Certificate in Housing.

Resources:

Students will be supported by a tutor throughout the duration of the programme. Professional development staff of CIH will be available to provide additional study support as needed.

An important source of study support will be students entitlement to student membership of CIH. Students will be in receipt of a wealth of topical housing information that will support their studies, for example the weekly CIH ezine, the weekly housing news journal, Inside Housing, free book - Introducing Social Housing etc. There are also enormous amounts of information available through the CIH websites that will provide more than sufficient resources to support Level 2 study.

On successful completion of the course you will receive the Chartered Institute of Housing Level 2 Certificate in Housing.

Structure

The course will be delivered in 4 days, 9.30am - 4.30pm, over a period of 4-6 months. In addition there will be an induction day prior to the course commencing. The course is continually assessed. There are no examinations. All learning outcomes for the Level 2 Certificate in Housing are met through the teaching, delivering and assessment of the course.

Who should attend:

• People not currently working in housing but considering a front-line housing position as a career option.
• Tenants and residents wishing to explore housing issues to enhance their personal involvement and understating of housing issues.
• People who are new to housing as part of an organisations induction process or workers in a front-line position who want to improve their general awareness of housing issues.
• People working in housing who wish to attain an initial qualification in housing.

There are four units for the CIH Level 2 Certificate in Housing. They are all of equal weighting. The learner must pass all units in order to be awarded the qualification.

This qualification is also available in house, training can be delivered at your premises or a venue of your choice, throughout England. Enquire about in house training.

Unit Aims
This unit requires learners to understand what housing is. Learners will consider different types of housing organisations and the range of services they offer.

Learning Outcomes
The learner will:

• 2C1.2 Understand the relationship between tenant and landlord.
• 2C1.3 Recognise the range of housing organisations operating in the UK.
• 2C2.4 Understand the range of services housing organisations and how/why they offer them.

Customer Care and Communication Skills for Housing

Unit Aims
This unit requires learners to demonstrate the ability to communicate using different media. Learners are also required to demonstrate an awareness of the needs of different audiences.

Learning Outcomes The learner will:

• 2C2.2 Communicate effectively in oral and written format.
• 2C2.3 Deal with difficult situations

Unit Aims
This unit requires learners to recognise different roles within a housing context and the skills needed to fulfil them. Learners are also required to identify opportunities for personal development within the housing sector.

The learner will:

• 2C3.1 Recognise a range of paid and voluntary opportunities in the housing sector.
• 2C3.2 Appreciate the skills and knowledge necessary for roles within the housing sector.
• 2C3.3 Develop an awareness of potential education, training and development opportunities within the housing sector.

Unit Aims
This unit requires learners to understand housing related activities, the skills they will need to carry them out and an understanding of how they can gain these skills in the future.

The learner will:

Booking information

• Please do not send any payment with this booking - you will be invoiced when this booking is processed
• If you are unable to attend any part of the programme the full fee will still be chargeable
• £60.00 administration fee will be charged per person if you cancel after a booking has been made
• Cancellations made within 10 working days of the first module will be charged £450.00 per person
• Cancellations made within 5 working days of the first module will be charged the full fee per person
• If, at the time of booking, you do not know the names of delegates, please let us have names no later than two weeks before the event

Limitation of liability

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) accepts responsibility for accident, injury or loss suffered whilst attending one of our events only if it is directly due to negligence on our part. Delegates are responsible for taking care of their own property. CIH accepts no responsibility for any loss incurred whilst using material or information gained at one of our events.

Cancellation of events

CIH may have to cancel an event. In this case we will return any payments received in advance. We will not refund any other costs you may incur as a result of this cancellation.
