Aims

To consider the relationship between housing law and the current law relating to domestic abuse and good practice in managing these cases.

Learning Outcomes

At the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Adopt a victim centred perspective
  • Identify the current law on domestic abuse
  • Identify who can obtain an injunction and how the tenancy or right to occupy can be affected
  • Examine the range of enforcement processes
  • Identify when benefit may be payable on two houses and how this may help
  • Improve local liaison and inter-agency working
  • Understand the duties owed by local authorities under the current homelessness legislation

    Who should attend?

    Anyone working with tenants, or dealing with external agencies, who needs an understanding of both the legal aspects and housing management issues relating to domestic abuse and its effects.
