Leadership Programme For Housing
Training programme details
Description
The Chartered Institute of Housing, in association with Warwick Business School, invite you to participate in the Leadership Programme for Housing.
This innovative programme, aimed at Chief Executive Officers, Directors and fast track Senior Managers, will enhance your strategic leadership skills and abilities as well as bringing to the table tools to build the leadership capabilities of your organisation. The programme's aim is to promote the development of leadership practices as it pertains to the social housing sector. However, we will also be looking outside the sector for lessons and illustrations of effective leadership which can be brought to bear on the challenges our sector is facing.
The programme will focus on leadership through times of challenge and change. Effective leadership requires a multi-disciplinary perspective to engage the organisation's stakeholders to recognise challenges and deal with the issues of performance, culture, people, suppliers, and many more which affect organisational success. The programme is intensive and requires a personal commitment to learning and development of the overall leadership capability in the sector.

The Programme
Module Description Dates
Module 1
Dates: 17 - 19 April 2012
Duration: 3 days
This module provides a range of opportunities for delegates to examine themselves, their followers and their organization through a series of critical and challenging lenses. The leadership territory of the 21st century is about ambiguity, complexity and uncertainty. This exacting environment requires the development of a portfolio of sophisticated options that are required to deliver organizational success. That portfolio is addressed over these three days and contains the following topics:
Self-awareness and impact on others
Developing Authenticity
Developing personal resilience
Adaptive Leadership
Confronting "wicked problems" and constructing "inelegant solutions"
Using paradox to address the "new normal"
Unlearning and "Triple Loop Learning"
Module 2
Dates: 22 - 23 May 2012
Duration: 2 days
Harnessing the talent within the organization is a permanent challenge for leaders. How can we be sure that we are extracting value from the internal capability that we have? Too often developing creative and innovative strategy is left to the few rather than the many. As a result we miss critical opportunities to optimise the resources that we have at our disposal. This module will develop the leadership skills essential to enable a shift in corporate possibilities through an examination of operating assumptions, the quality of relationships and the opportunities available to leaders to provide an appropriate climate of engagement and commitment. This will involve the following topics:
Developing High Performing Teams
Collaborative Leadership
The politics of decision making
Overcoming barriers to creativity and innovation
Managing complexity
Module 3
Dates: 26 - 27 June 2012
Duration: 2 days
This module will move delegate thinking away from traditional models of organizational change requiring management, and towards a consideration of change capability requiring leadership. This means seeing change not as a temporary disruption, but more as a permanent feature of 21st century corporate life. Participants will be challenged to examine their assumptions about change and will be encouraged to undertake change capability gaps for their own organizations. A range of examples and cases will be used to illustrate the possibilities. Content will include the following:
Developing Change Capability
Diagnosing Organizational Culture
Mindfulness and High Reliability Organizations
Managing Mindsets
Developing Organizational Resilience

Testimonials
"Having only been in post 6 months and not ever having felt confident about my leadership skills, I was surprised to find that many of the ideas that float around in my head and which spill out occasionally are actually the core skills of good leadership. I have rejoined the company this week with a much greater sense of who I am and confidence in my ideas for taking the business forward."
Chaun Wilson, Assistant Director, Housing Support & Supported Employment, Southdown Housing Association
"The leadership development programme was great, not only did it give me an opportunity to meet some really great people, hearing about what others were doing inspired me to think creatively about how we as leaders inspire others to achieve. As a direct result of the training we have developed the ‘Greenfields wheel’. This is a tool to help staff focus on the difference they make, what’s important to our customers and help embed the values of the organisation"
Sandra Crosby, Housing Director, Greensfields Community Housing
"The Leadership programme is transformational and I would highly recommend it for the whole leadership teams within organisations"
