Housing Law: Anti-social behaviour
DescriptionThis half-day session will look at the range of legal remedies available to deal with anti-social behaviour. It will also look at the various remedies introduced by the Anti-Social Behaviour (Scotland) Act 2004 such as closure orders, noise control powers and the extension of anti-social behaviour orders to those under 16.
By the end of this specialist course you will be able to:
• Define the legal rules which deal with anti-social behaviour
• Identify the various legal remedies short of legal action which housing associations and local authorities can use to deal with anti-social behaviour by tenants
• Examine the various remedies which exist, short of eviction
• Identify the relevant law on eviction

Trainer InfoSusan McDonald is a partner with HBJ Gately law firm. Susan has specialised in social housing and regeneration law since joining the firm in 1998. She has a particular focus on housing management and leads the low cost home ownership unit within her team, in addition to dealing with conveyancing for development sites and refinance transactions. Susan has been involved with numerous large scale stock transfers, mixed tenure development transactions, regeneration projects and a large number of development site acquisitions for social landlords. She has also been involved in a significant number of large volume refinances on behalf of clients. She regularly presents at conferences on a wide range of topics within the social housing sector, was a member of the Scottish government's sounding board for the evaluation of the Mortgage To Rent Scheme and is a committee member of Ore Valley Housing Association Ltd. Susan is currently advising clients on the impact of the Property Factors legislation.
