The year of practice
The CIH year of practice covered the period from April 2012 to April 2013. Over this time we developed a range of good practice resources designed to support housing providers to ‘implement change’ – such as by preparing for welfare reform and introducing fixed term tenancies – while also continuing to ‘get the basics right’ by delivering great services to tenants.
- Three new charters, which set out the outcomes that an effective service can achieve. Organisations sign up on a voluntary basis and are encouraged to self-assess their performance against the charters and to use them as the basis for improvement plans. Charters published during the year of practice covered equality and diversity, repairs and complaints and we will be developing further charters during the remainder of 2013
- 20 how to briefings. These are concise, practically focused guides designed to support housing practitioners. They cover a range of topics spanning a number of areas of housing management. We will also continue to publish new how to briefings throughout 2013
- Five online networks where members can share and discuss examples of good practice. These cover allocations and lettings, ASB, equality and diversity, repairs and complaints. They are continuing to run and we will also develop further networks to support signatories to any new charters that we develop. For more information contact us at policyandpractice@cih.org.
