CIH LONDON

Welcome to the website for the CIH's London Branch. We are an elected voluntary committee representing members within London, with a mission to raise awareness of the CIH amongst those with an interest in housing.

BREAKING DOWN THE BARRIERS TO DELIVERING SUSTAINABLE AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN LONDON

The London Branch of the Chartered Institute of Housing held a seminar last year to inspire people to get on and deliver sustainable, affordable housing in London. Wates Living Space kindly sponsored the event.

The seminar focused on the practical ways that organisations and people are working together to increase high quality supply.

Despite the current economic climate the key actions summarising the seminar are still relevant today and the contents of that day have been encapsulated in a pamphlet, which we have distributed to London MP’s and senior figures in the London Housing world.

We welcome the fact that the new Mayor of London is committed to increasing the supply of affordable housing. At the same time as engaging in debate about a future London Housing Strategy, we will observe with interest the difference that his housing policy proposals will make to London’s housing situation.

Please do read the pamphlet, have a look at the Resources section of this web page for more information about the seminar itself, the Presentations and good practice examples. Should you have any questions then please contact Cathy Deplessis, Vice Chair, London Branch, or Tracey Gaughan, Policy Officer, London Branch, through Robin Ward, robin.ward@cih.org

LONDON AGM - 27 JANUARY 2009

London held its AGM on Tuesday 27th January 2009 at White Lion Street. The event continued London's run of successful events - with 81 people squeezed into the meeting - a record for recent years. Apart from the main business of the evening two very high profile speakers enthralled the delegates. First. Richard Blakeway from the GLA (Mayor Johnson's Hosuing Advisor) spoke passionately about the curent housing scene in London and the Mayor's intended approach. His talk centred around 3 main areas: The role of the Mayor's new strategy; The markt in London at present and the future of Social Housing in London. Unfortunately, for those who were unable to attend, Richard had no formal slides or notes - so we are unable to post them on our web -page. Similarly our second speaker - Steve Benson (CIH - President) also spoke off the cuff (and from the heart!) - so again, we are unable to preserve his comments for all to see. Steve also presented the first two London Student Awards. These awards are for students achieving Corporate membership, via APEX - and the winners were:Stephen Dodd and Taiwo Ojutalayo.

Details of the new Committee are shown elsewhere on the London page.
