THE CREDIT CRUNCH: HAS THE HOUSING BUBBLE BURST?

The impact of the so-called ‘credit crunch’ on housing and the broader economy looks set to be the priority issue for policy makers in the coming period. The continuing fall in house prices, coupled with a dramatic change in access to mortgages and other forms of credit, and fluctuating international markets will pose challenges for the housing sector at it works towards a new agenda for housing, in post-devolution Northern Ireland.

It is timely therefore, that leaders across the housing sector should come together to discuss the critical issue of the changing financial landscape. The Chartered Institute of Housing is hosting its annual Chairs’ and Chief Executives’ Conference on the 11th June to consider the credit crunch, and how it will impact on housing and the broader economy.
