Northern Ireland board (voluntary)

Closing date: 5pm, Friday 15 October

The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) is the professional body supporting housing professionals to create a future in which everyone has a place to call home.

CIH’s purpose is simple: to provide everyone involved in housing with the skills, support and knowledge they need to be the best they can. We also want to shape housing and community agendas. To achieve these things, CIH must be an accountable, strategic, modern, inclusive and dynamic organisation that is both prepared to face future challenges and fit for purpose.

As a member of the Northern Ireland board, your role will:
  • Contribute fully to the business of the regional and national board
  • Oversee the functions of CIH in the area through high standards of scrutiny and challenge
  • Contribute to the development of the CIH’s functions in the area in line with its Charter and Byelaws, the corporate plan and charitable objectives
  • Ensure the development and effective implementation of the CIH corporate plan in the area
  • Exercise exemplary judgement in the best interests of CIH to provide guidance to the organisation
  • To prepare in advance, regularly attend and participate fully in board meetings and other CIH business activities in the area as appropriate
  • To contribute as appropriate to working groups established by the board
  • To accept accountability for the decisions made by the board
  • To develop effective working relationships with other board members, the Institute staff and CIH members
  • Uphold standards and discipline within the board, and ensure compliance with the code of governance
  • Willingness to contribute to the effectiveness of the board as a member of the team.
Experience needed for the role

We are keen to hear from CIH members who are passionate about housing and have experience in, but not limited to, one or more of the following areas:

  • Private housing / estate agents
  • Strategic planning / local government
  • Public affairs / marketing / event management.

This is a great opportunity to contribute to the CIH Northern Ireland board.

CIH is committed to equality of opportunity at all stages of recruitment and selection and strives to have a workforce that promotes inclusivity. We welcome applicants from all sectors of the community in order to achieve and celebrate diversity.
