I want our colleagues, residents and customers to be empowered to contribute to decision making and ultimately help to deliver solutions which are focused on justice and inclusivity. As younger people will be most affected by climate issues, I feel it's important to link with our other areas of focus with the board."

Ryan Barclay - vice chair of CIH Futures

I enjoy speaking with the customer to find out how I can provide the most tailored service possible, to empower them to make decisions about their housing future and better understand their housing options. The housing sector is very varied, so I am both eager, to ensure that I learn from the experience of colleagues to deliver the highest possible standard of service and keen that I take the opportunity to promote a career in the housing sector which I find to be very rewarding."

Iain Gilliespe - chair of CIH Futures Northern Ireland

"I am a project manager at GreenSquareAccord, working to deliver affordable new housing across the West Midlands. Like many others, I stumbled into the housing sector five years ago from when I left university by becoming a project administrator, eventually progressing into a project manager in the development team.

My favourite thing about working in the housing sector is the difference we can make to people's lives, by providing affordable homes, with support from many amazing people in the industry that ensure that this happens.

Being a CIH futures board member is an incredible honour, where I will be able to help shape and encourage young people to choose the housing sector as a profession and help raise awareness of the incredible work that is completed."

Jack Madge

Jack Madge

Head of service and partnerships, Cornerstone Partnership

Jack is a senior housing professional currently working as a head of service and partnerships, where he leads strategic collaboration across the private and public sectors to unlock new opportunities in housing. His work focuses on temporary accommodation, healthcare integration, and supported housing — creating models where sectors can co-exist effectively for the benefit of customers. Jack is driven by the belief that sustainable housing solutions require partnership, innovation, and a willingness to challenge traditional silos.

With a strong background in community safety and anti-social behaviour case management, Jack has built his career from frontline service delivery through to strategic leadership. This breadth of experience gives him a practical understanding of how policy decisions translate into real-world impact for tenants and communities.

Alongside his professional role, Jack is an active member of CIH Futures. For him, CIH Futures represents more than development — it is about ensuring young housing professionals have a genuine voice at board and executive level. He believes that strategic decisions about the future of housing must include those who are delivering services on the ground and who reflect the next generation of leaders. Without that representation, organisations risk designing services that fail to resonate with emerging and younger tenants.

By championing leadership pathways for young professionals, Jack advocates for governance that is diverse in age, experience, and perspective. He believes that when boards and executive teams include younger voices, organisations are better positioned to innovate, adapt, and shape services that meet the evolving needs of communities — future-proofing housing for the next generation.

Ellie Marlow

Working in housing is so much more than it says on the tin – and I think more people should know about it. As a marketing and communications officer, I love working to support and empower our customers, making sure we're working on and talking about things that our customers really care about.

My favourite bit about working in housing is using what our customers say to support strong communities, creating places where people feel part of and proud to live.

Being part of the Futures Board is an opportunity to shout about all the ways working in the housing sector can make a real difference to people and places. I’m excited to be part of making that happen.

Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of working across both Social Housing and the Private Sector. While I’ve often been called a “jack of all trades,” my true passions lie in Service Charges, Finance, and Customer Service.

Being part of the CIH Futures family is an honour, and I’m deeply committed to making a meaningful impact. My goal is to enhance the customer journey, ensuring every experience is a positive one while helping to shape the future of housing for generations to come."

Elizabeth Skillen

Quality assurance and standards officer at Brent Council

"Housing is a fundamental pillar in our society so a long-term vision is crucial – a long term vision for the homes we have and the ones we are building, a long term vision for regulatory compliance and best practice in our service delivery, and a long term vision to invest in and retain skills and talent in our workforce. CIH Futures is there to ensure younger voices are championed as part of these conversations."

Emily Stockford

Sustainability strategy manager at Stonewater

"Housing is a sector with so much space to find your passion. I’ve been lucky enough to find two; firstly looking after our environment through the homes we provide and the support we give to people who live in those homes. Secondly, ensuring housing is an inclusive space for colleagues and customers with diversity of thought and backgrounds. Working with CIH Futures I am excited to develop improvements in both of these areas and help other young people find their purpose through a career in housing."

Olivia Richards

"In a sector committed to making a positive impact to our residents and communities, there is so much space to make a lasting difference. From a background working with vulnerable groups, and my two years’ experience in housing, I truly believe the provision of safe, secure, and sustainable homes shouldn't be an aspirational promise, it should be a standard – and that cannot be done without first understanding our residents.

I’m excited to be a part of Futures, a group that empowers younger housing professionals to contribute and influence decision making. I think it’s so important to take the opportunities to learn from other housing professionals and think innovatively to be the difference we want to see."

Social Housing Development Plan - Letter to Ministers of the NI Executive

CIH Northern Ireland Futures, write to the Ministers of the NI Executive to raise concerns on the budget cuts to the Social Housing Development Plan.

We believe that increasing the supply of high-quality, affordable housing is imperative to efforts in this society to prevent and reduce homelessness.

Put succinctly, society will not be able to reduce homelessness without an adequate supply of housing.

As a group, we believe budget cuts to the housing sector will have a significant impact on young professionals working within it, creating a challenging future.

With fewer resources, this increases the risk of burnout to existing staff levels, leading to high turnover and further straining the sector.
