Looking back on a Cartrefi Conwy award hat-trick

The 2019 Welsh housing awards were really special to us as we got to celebrate with our (now retired) managing director, Gwynne Jones, who received a well-deserved ‘outstanding commitment’ award. But the celebrations (and tears) didn’t stop there as we managed to scoop up another three awards (small development, community focussed contractor and positive placemaking).

But really the event isn’t just about picking up a trophy. As a whole, the Welsh housing awards are about celebrating the amazing people that go above and beyond every day to make sure everyone in Wales has access to safe, secure and appropriate housing. And since March 2020, our homes have never been more important. Not only have they been our refuge, but they have also doubled up in a lot of cases as our workplace, our schools and gyms.

For me, the Welsh housing awards are all about meeting the people behind the incredible housing projects and initiatives, giving us lots of invaluable learning to take back with us. The event will always be a highlight in our collective calendars.

And here we are one again, looking forward to the 2021 awards ceremony. We're almost 18 months into a global pandemic and, although we aren’t yet able to get together physically to celebrate our achievements, the virtual event presents an amazing opportunity to hear from organisations across Wales. I for one am looking forward to hearing about what the sector has been up to over these difficult and challenging months!
