CIH Level 3 Award in Housing Practice

The objective of this qualification is to provide you with an introduction to the housing practice profession at an operational level.

What will I learn?

The qualification explores general areas of housing, professional practice, occupancy, tenure and lettings, housing markets and supply and demand.

Achieving the qualification

This qualification has three mandatory units:

  • Occupancy, tenure and lettings
  • Professional practice skills for housing
  • The housing system
Do I qualify?

You can enrol onto this qualification if you:

  • are aged 16 or above
  • work in a frontline capacity in a wide range of housing and housing related roles
  • have a level 2 qualification and / or experience of working in housing

CIH Level 3 Award in Resident Scrutiny

This qualification aims to provide you with the skills and knowledge to actively undertake the process of scrutiny of the housing service.

What will I learn?

This qualification aims to enhance your skills of active residents to enable them to participate fully in the development, management and assessment of housing services for communities.

Achieving the qualification

This qualification focuses on the following topics:

  • Resident participation in the housing service
  • Resident participation in performance management

You must achieve both mandatory units in order to achieve this qualification

Do I qualify?

You can enrol onto this qualification if you:

  • are a resident or tenant actively involved in local housing organisation or community
  • are a resident or tenant specifically involved in the scrutiny process
  • are working in housing with a particular interest in resident scrutiny
  • are aged 19+

CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Maintenance and Asset Management

The objective of this qualification is to provide you with the technical knowledge and understanding of housing maintenance and asset management at an operational level.

What will I learn?

This qualification explores housing construction, maintenance and repair, KPIs and health and safety.

You will:

  • understand the housing maintenance/asset management role and how this fits into the wider context of housing
  • introduce some of the knowledge necessary to participate in housing maintenance/asset management related activities
Achieving the qualification

You must achieve a minimum of 13 credits in order to be awarded the qualification, from one mandatory unit and three optional units. An optional unit must be taken from each optional unit group, with a further unit to be taken from either group.

Mandatory unit:

  • Professional practice skills for housing

Do I qualify?

You can enrol onto this qualification if you:

  • are aged 16+
  • are maintenance professionals working in the housing sector
  • or non-technical staff from a customer service or housing management background who want to progress to become a housing maintenance/asset management professional
  • working as tenant liaison officers in private construction companies

CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Practice

The objective of this qualification is to provide iyou with the technical knowledge and understanding across a broad range of frontline housing practices at an operational level.

CIH Level 3 Certificate in Housing Services

The objective of this qualification is to provide you with the technical knowledge and understanding across a generalist range of housing practice at an operational level.

What will I learn?

The qualification explores core areas of housing management and supports the development of your personal growth and engagement in learning and housing.

On achievement of this qualification you will:

  • have the knowledge and skills required to operate effectively in a frontline capacity in the housing sector
  • be prepared for further study and progression to level 3 and potentially level 4 housing qualifications
Achieving the qualification

You must achieve a minimum of 13 credits in order to be awarded the qualification, from one mandatory unit and three optional units.

  • already have a level 2 qualification and/or experience of working in housing
  • are working or resident in the UK and Ireland

CIH Level 3 Certificate in Letting and Managing Residential Property

The objective of the qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding of key areas of managing and letting property.

What will I learn?

This qualification will provide you with the knowledge required to work in a front line role in letting and managing residential property. Develop your technical knowledge and get prepared for further study in housing and property.

Achieving the qualification

You must complete the following mandatory units:

  • Letting residential properties
  • Property standards for residential properties
  • Tenancy management for residential property
  • Ending tenancies of residential property

The following additional unit may be taken to broaden learning:

  • Professional practice for lettings agents
Do I qualify?

You can enrol onto this qualification if you:

  • are working or resident in the UK and Ireland
  • are in or aspiring to a front-line role in letting and managing residential property
  • already have a level 2 qualification and/or experience of working in letting and managing residential property, preferably in a front-line role

CIH Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Homeless People - FAB Award winner 2018

CIH is delighted to have won the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) Qualification of the year award 2018, for their Level 3 in Supporting Homeless People.

What will I learn?

This year we have seen a 500% surge in applications for the CIH Level 3 in Supporting Homeless People qualification, driven by the need to upskill housing professionals after the Homelessness Reduction Act.

The objective of this qualification is to provide you with the knowledge and understanding required to support homeless people at an operational level.

Achieving the qualification

The qualification has four mandatory units:

  • Homelessness services and prevention
  • Involving housing service users
  • Professional practice skills for housing
  • Role of the support worker for independent living

The following additional unit may be offered to broaden the learning:

  • Homelessness amongst ex-offenders

  • are working or resident in the UK
  • work supporting homeless people and want to develop their skills and knowledge
