This course will give a practitioner’s overview of the Act and Amendment for housing professionals. We’ll explore Welsh Government’s expectations of landlords in preparing for implementation, the current status of guidance, consultations and likely program of action leading up to the ‘appointed day’.

What will I learn?

During this training course, you will gain an understanding of:

  • The key changes that the Renting Homes (Wales) Act 2016 (RHA) brings to housing management practice
  • The basic elements of the RHA from a practitioner’s viewpoint
  • Preparing for the changeover on the appointed day - including basic coverage of:
    • Model contracts
    • Prescribed forms
    • Prohibited conduct standard contracts (ASB)
    • Fitness for human habitation
    • The amendment proposals.

Your trainer

Philip Toms MSc CIHCM FNAEA is an experienced business and housing professional with more than 35 years’ experience in the private, public and third sectors, culminating in 12 years as CEO of a stock transfer housing association. He has successfully performed many roles in housing development and regeneration, housing management, supported housing and corporate strategic change management. Philip’s training is based on a practical experience of the sector blended with in-depth understanding of policy development and implementation, legislation, regulation and governance. Philip is an associate lecturer in housing at Cardiff Metropolitan University and has been a tutor and trainer with the CIH since 2012.
